Boracay Island has witnessed rapid development, which resulted in the rise of various multi-sectoral concerns caused by the imbalance in the development of the surrounding municipalities. The Malay Tourism Master Plan was then formulated, which covers a land area of 6,601 hectares, along with its surrounding municipal waters. This tourism master plan would help sustain the island’s tourism value, preserve environmental integrity, and create a holistic expansion of the industry towards the mainland.
The proposed framework strategy aims to: create an integrated and holistic development that will regulate Malay, Aklan’s tourism development projects; address the gap between the Mainland and Boracay Island; provide economic opportunities for all; and highlight the role of agriculture and tourism as the municipality’s primary means of development; among others. The master plan also includes the Tourism Renewal Infrastructure Project (TRIP), which is composed of proposals for housing, infrastructures, transportation, and tourism, that would address current and future development concerns.
